Public Driving Days

Colloquially known as "pay'n'play days: Motorsport UK allows us to run three non-competitive driving events for promotional purposes each year.

With a few restrictions, drivers are able to tackle whatever terrain takes their fancy, with the reassurance of help in the form of recovery, guidance and even informal tuition, depending on the driver's confidence in their vehicle and level of experience.

Although not as structured as trials, for safety and insurance reasons, these can't be a total 'free for all', so we have to apply some rules and regulations, outlined in our drivers' briefings.

Promotional Day Regulations / Drivers’ Briefing

All drivers must have signed the Drivers’ Signing-on Sheet and in doing so acknowledge that they have received, understood and agree to comply with this drivers’ briefing before driving on the course.

All vehicles driven on the course must either:-

comply with the Road Traffic Act by being taxed and insured for use on the public highway and hold a current M.o.T. certificate if over three years old.

or:

if trailered to the event, meet the scrutineer’s requirements for safety in terms of basic structure, braking, steering, security of seating and seat belts (which must be a minimum of three-point lap strap and diagonal).

Any vehicle deemed to be excessively noisy, due to a defective exhaust or other cause will be prohibited from participating in the event.

Spectators must remain in the car parking area. Only officials may enter the course ‘on foot’. Vehicle occupants may only leave their vehicle in order to facilitate a recovery or for other safety reasons and must not ‘wander’ into the possible path of recovery equipment or other vehicles.

All vehicle occupants must wear seat belts whilst driving or being driven on the course.

Smoking is not permitted whilst driving or being driven on the course (this includes e-cigarettes / ‘vaping’).

Vehicles must not be driven into restricted areas as defined at the drivers’ briefing or bounded by ‘danger tape’.

Vehicles must not be driven in a dangerous or careless manner which may result in personal injury, death or damage to property through loss of control.

Dangerous or careless driving includes:-

use of excess speed showing off , racing, aggressive driving, overtaking or cutting in too close to other vehicles, ascending or descending a hill with another vehicle in a position where loss of control may result in a collision or abandoning a vehicle in the way of other event participants.

Other than a simple tow, any vehicle recovery must be supervised by an event official.

Winch recovery must be supervised by an event official and a winch sail/blanket used.

‘Recovery’ of one vehicle by pushing it with another is NOT permitted.

IF IN DOUBT, ASK FOR HELP BEFORE YOU GET IN A BIGGER MUDDLE

Failure to comply with these rules will result in expulsion from the event

The entry fee will NOT be refunded.
